INTRODUCTION

I am a UK registered medical practitioner and Consultant Psychiatrist, with over 36 years’ experience in psychiatry. He worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in NHS practice from 1999 to 2021 and currently practises in the independent sector in General Adult Psychiatry.

CLINICAL PRACTICE

Medico legal and tribunal work
I am instructed on average around 40 times per year, including Mental Health Review Tribunals. In criminal matters, instructions are received from both prosecution and defence, approximately 30:70. His civil workload commonly includes medical negligence, employment matters, Equality Act cases, and professional regulatory proceedings. He accepts instruction as single joint expert as well as in the roles of professional and expert witness. For PTSD and complex PTSD, he assesses over 30 individuals per year for medico legal reporting.

Occupational, Military, Police and specialist services
He provides psychiatric services to serving officers in UK police constabularies, UK intelligence services, and the British Armed Forces. He has also provided services to former Sri Lankan Naval Intelligence and former Sri Lankan Special Forces personnel, and lectures at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Charity and sector roles
He works with the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine and Music Support, charities supporting the mental health needs of musicians and those working in the music industry.

Training and previous posts
Trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and South London and the Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Two years’ experience as a Clinical Research Fellow in Forensic Psychiatry and two years’ experience within the Prison Service. Former Metropolitan Police Forensic Medical Examiner until 2012.

Special interests

Previously held a special interest in ECT, including service review work for the Royal College, and his unit received recognition for excellence. Current clinical interest includes low dose ketamine therapy.

Teaching and supervision

Former undergraduate examiner for Imperial College Medical School and lecturer to postgraduate students. Former Clinical Supervisor and Educational Supervisor for psychiatric trainees.

Current Clinical Practice

I am a Trauma Informed therapist, and have accredited trained in EMDR. I practice this therapy alomg with Low Dose Ketamine Treatment for patients with treatment resistant depression, cPTSD, PTSD, OCD, and Anorexia Nervosa.

I work with people in Adult psychiatry, typically age 18 and over. Clinical caseload includes schizophrenia spectrum disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, alcohol and substance misuse, personality disorder presentations, mild learning disability, ADHD and ADD, and other neurodevelopmental presentations.  I currently treat approximately 10 ongoing patients with PTSD and complex PTSD, and commonly sees survivors of complex trauma for psychotherapy and EMDR in private practice.
